In
our Regular Singles Simplified pages we attempt to show each face
different stamp issue only once. Perforation, booklet format, coil
format, gum, color and other varieties having the same face design, are
considered
equivalent and space is provided for only one example. Thus we have
included only one printer variety (any of the three) of the Lady
Liberty & Flag Se-tenant Coil stamps.
Also, the Liberty Bell Forever ATM stamp has been
excluded because we do not consider it sufficiently
different from the previously released versions of this stamp.
The Regular Singles Complete album is intended to show all major stamp
varieties issued in
sheet and coil formats. To maintain a measure of completeness, booklet
stamps are included when they don't exist in sheet or coil form.
However, we have a strong conviction that booklet stamps should be
collected as
unbroken panes. Thus, for the collector who wishes to properly collect
booklet stamps, a separate White Ace album is available for full
booklet
panes.
If production of a stamp is
moved
to a new printing firm, the process
almost certainly involves starting over from conventional art, or
re-composing electronic art and typography. The
preparation of electronic files for output will likely differ from the
process used in the prior printing and will result in an image that is
slightly different. Additionally, it may be printed on different
paper or have changes in perforation or die cut measurements. Because
of these differences, the USPS usually changes the date printed at the
bottom edge of the stamp, so the origin of the stamp is unambiguous.
For 2010, these principles apply
only to the Liberty Bell ATM Pane printed by Ashton Potter.
Similar ATM format panes were printed in 2007 and 2009 by Avery
Dennison. For 2010, the
printer of the Liberty Bell ATM Pane changed from AV to AP, and there
are
visible differences in the date color, the microprinting, die cuts
and general appearance. These differences justify the inclusion of this
issue in our Regular Issue Blocks and Regular Issue Plate Blocks pages.
While the similarity to prior Liberty Bell ATM Panes is limited, there
is great similarity between the images on the 2010 Ashton Potter
Liberty Bell ATM pane and those on 2007 Ashton Potter Liberty Bell
Double-sided pane. In 2007, when this stamp design was first
released, we did not include the AV printed ATM version in our Regular
Singles Complete pages, as the image on the ATM pane was essentially
the same as that on the AV printed Double Sided Pane. In retrospect,
that might have been a mistaken decision as the varieties can be
distinguished by differences in stamp size and perforations. In
this
instance, the stamp size and perforations also differ. However,
the 2010 AP printed ATM stamp has a medium "FOREVER" microprint, and
the date is in heavily screened gold (actually PMS 876 copper) ink. The
2007 AP Double-sided pane
had a small "FOREVER" microprint, and the date was printed in lightly
screened black ink. Because of these differences we will include the
ATM stamp in our 2010 Regular Singles Complete pages.
Our choice of what formats to display for the Lady Liberty and Flag
se-tenant
coil in
each album was guided by our formats for the 2006 Crops coil, 2007
Blooms coil, 2008 Flags coil and 2008 Tropical Fruit coil.
Our last
Airmail supplements for Singles, Blocks and Plate Blocks were
published in 2010, and included the last of these issues through 2009.
No airmail stamp were issued in 2010, so no Airmail supplement will be
released in 2011.
Only one Distinguished Americans Series stamp was released in 2009, and
our last supplement contained all of these issues through 2008. As
there are still an insufficient number of issues to fill a page,
no supplement for this specialty will be released in 2011.
