The Regular Singles Complete album is intended to show all major
stamp varieties issued in sheet and coil formats. To maintain a
measure of completeness, booklet stamps are included when they don't
exist in sheet or coil form. However, we have a strong conviction
that booklet stamps should be collected as unbroken panes. Thus, for
the collector who wishes to properly collect booklet stamps, a
separate White Ace album is available for full booklet panes. If
production of a stamp is moved to a new printing firm, the process
almost certainly involves starting over from conventional art, or
re-composing electronic art and typography. The preparation of
electronic files for output will likely differ from the process used
in the prior printing and will result in an image that is slightly
different. Additionally, it may be printed on different paper or
have changes in perforation or die cut measurements. Because of
these differences, the USPS usually changes the date printed at the
bottom edge of the stamp, so the origin of the stamp is unambiguous.
In the White Ace Plate Block Albums, a plate block is
considered the smallest block (of 4 or more stamps) that can be
taken from the margin of the sheet, that contains all stamp
designs, and has attached selvage bearing a plate number. If more
than one such block can be removed from a sheet and the plate
number is adjacent to a different stamp design in any of these,
then each such example is shown in our Plate Blocks Complete
pages. In our Plate Blocks Simplified pages, any such plate
position can be collected. In most cases, there will be two rows
or columns of stamps opposite the plate number. (This definition
may vary somewhat where there is a particularly attractive header
or illustrated selvage or where there is more than one plate
number along the same margin of the sheet).
For se-tenant coil stamps we have always shown a strip
containing two sets of the stamp designs in sequence, with the
plate number on the last stamp of the first set of stamps in the
sequence. Thus, for the two Ferns coils we call for a plate strip
of 10 with the plate number on the fifth stamp from the left. This
arrangement is consistent with our treatment many previously
issued se-tenant coils (for example, the 2008 tropical fruit
coil, 2008 Flags coil, 2007 Beautiful Blooms coil, 2006 Crops
coil, 2004 Eagle coil and the 1999 fruit berries coil).
Several stamps released in 2014 are re-issues of previous designs.
The 4¢ Chippendale Chair was first printed in 2004 by Ashton
Potter in self-adhesive sheet of 20 format. It was re-issued as a
gummed coil in 2007 printed by Sennett Security Products. The 2014
gummed coil was printed by Ashton Potter and the most obvious
difference is the greater width of the dark brown frame
surrounding the outside design. There are additionally slight
differences in the size of the type and other design elements and
slight color differences. Thus, we will include this in all of our
regular issue supplements except Regular Singles Simplified.
Another re-issue is the Purple Heart Medal stamp printed by CCL
Label and released in October 2014. This replaces a Purple Heart
Medal stamp issued in September 2012 printed by Avery
Dennison. Ordinarily, when the printer of a stamp changes it
is expected that there will be detectible differences in the new
issue. In this case, there are none as the stamps were printed in
the same plant and on the same press as the 2012 version. The
explanation for this is that the printing plant was sold to CCL
Label by Avery Dennison in early 2014. Accordingly, we will omit
the 2014 Purple Heart Medal from all of our 2014 regular issue
pages.
The third 2014 re-issue is the SSP printed Flag for All Seasons
booklet pane released March 17, 2014. The SSP printed Flag for All
Seasons booklet pane released May 17, 2013, was printed on the
same press (Alprinta, 74 at Browns Summit, NC) as the new pane,
and differs only in the date on the stamps and the plate
number. For this reason the 2014 pane will not be shown in
any of the 2014 White Ace supplements.
Our last Airmail supplements for Singles, Blocks and
Plate Blocks were published in 2010, and included the last of
these issues through 2009. No airmails were issued in 2010; one
was issued in 2011, and only two airmail stamps were issued in
2012. As we require five or six stamps to fill a singles page, we
did not have a sufficient number of such issues to release Air
Mail Supplements in 2013. In as much as it appears that airmail
has become an obsolete postage class, we will publish final
airmail supplements for each of those album series in 2015.
One Distinguished Americans Series stamp was released
in 2014. Previously one stamp of this series were issued in
each of the years 2012, 2011 and 2009. Our last supplement
contained all such issues through 2008. As four Distinguished
Americans issues are sufficient to fill a singles page, a
supplement for this specialty will be released in 2015.
